Adam Sanders

is a theater artist and director, specializing in educational theater and community outreach.  He joined Babson College as the Associate Director for the Sorenson Center for the Arts in 2013 and has served as the Associate Artistic Director at Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, theater-in-residence at Babson College, since 2011.

At Babson College, Adam supports the artistic development of undergraduate students within a business focused curriculum.  He works with student groups to advance artistic missions on campus and runs a scholarship program of his own design called the Sorenson Scholars, a small cohort of undergraduates that present new artistic projects to the community yearly and grow through peer feedback.  He brings theater workshops, especially Shakespeare, into classes within Babson’s Arts and Humanities department.  He has co-developed a class that integrated Shakespeare into an advanced class on leadership, and co-taught a global perspectives class on theater studies that was held in London.  He curates workshops in movement, voice and improvisation meant to compliment Babson’s entrepreneurship curriculum.  Adam also runs the Sorenson Center’s Arts and Business Conversations.

For CSC, Adam oversees educational and community engagement efforts. He serves as director for the Apprentice Program, an intensive classical actor training program for undergraduate and recently graduated students where he also teaches text analysis, and is the director and originator of CSC2, a cohort of early-career actors that work with CSC for an extended period.  Adam developed several community performance/education pieces including The Greenshow and CSC’s Lecture in the Grove series on the Boston Common and Henry, a Shakespeare for Young Audiences script.  He created and ran several long-term theater residencies at Everett High School, Boston Collegiate Charter School, as well as the Blue Hill, Charlestown and Jordan Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston. Directing credits for CSC include: Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (CSC2 Company), Symphonic Shakespeare, (in collaboration with Boston Landmarks Orchestra at the Boston Hatch Shell); co-director: Kiss Me Kate, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Boys From Syracuse (also BLO/Hatch Shell collaborations), co-director/dramaturg: Shakespeare and Leadership and CSCs unprecedented Shakespeare at Fenway performance in 2014.  Adam is also the director of CSC’s annual gala.

Outside of his full time work, Adam has directed and performed with a dozen theater companies in Boston and Western Massachusetts. He is a former company member of Theater Espresso and the Improbable Players: educational companies that tour to New England middle and high schools.  He’s also served as a director for Wheelock Family Theater’s Emerging Playwrights Program.  Adam holds a B.A. in English from UMass, Amherst, and an M.A. in theater and community from Emerson College.
