StageSource is a non-profit service organization, we rely on support from people like you. Leave a comment if there are any specific programs or initiatives you would like to allocate your donation to. You do a lot of juggling to survive a career in theatre. At StageSource we know this. Our work supports you and all members of our community. Can you make a donation today? The New England Theatre community is a garden and StageSource is the gardener—adding fertilizer to enrich the soil, installing irrigation so that all the plants get water, and making sure every plant gets the sunlight to thrive. But, perhaps, most important—we make sure the garden serves the whole neighborhood. "One of the hardest things as an actor is making a consistent living—feeling confident that you can buy a house or have a kid, without having anxiety attacks about the fact that you're never really certain about your income more than a few months out." - Kortney Adams (she/her), AEA Actor/Education Manager, Central Square Theater "When I finally decided to quit my job and try to cobble together a living in theatre, it was StageSource that had my back. StageSource didn't just connect me with theaters doing plays—it connected me with all kinds of employment opportunities that made use of my skills." - Margaret Ann Brady (she/her), AEA Actor, StageSource Board Member For marginalized populations, the barriers to living as a theater artist are much steeper. If you're not already part of the "in crowd", how do you get there? "So much of the theater industry is who know you." - Elizabeth Yvette Ramirez (she/they), AEA Stage Manager/Director "I left Boston because StageSource simply does not have the resources to change everything that needs to be changed, but they are the only ones who are trying. As a trans theatre maker, Boston provided few opportunities, and exactly zero opportunities to make a living wage in theatre. Nothing about the existing community was ready to receive my work." - M Sloth Levine (they/them), Director/Playwright/Theatre-maker "I'm a Deaf person, a Black person, I'm gay. I can't ever just choose one of those identities. They're all a part of me all the time and as an artist." - Elbert Joseph "EJ" (he/him), Actor/ASL Theatrical Interpreter/Director As a community, we face a myriad of challenges:
Our solutions must be bold—like StageSource's Gender Explosion, Line Drawn, and Antiracism Community Building initiatives. And, there's so much more to be done. We do this with a staff of three. In 2022, our goal is to grow. However, in order to do this, we need your help to cultivate the garden. Your donation is the fertilizer, irrigation systems, shovels, and water—classes, workshops, advocacy, and events—all the tools needed to grow our community. The past two years proved that the New England Theatre community needs StageSource. Our work kept hope alive, resources available, and connections strong. Together we can tend to a thriving garden—blooming full of colors. Sincerely, The StageSource Team To join or renew your membership, visit: StageSource.org/JoinNow
"Stage Source has been and continues to be a hub for our theatrical landscape. It insists that and assists in companies of all sizes to become the ethical leaders we are called to be. A small yet mighty source of support, mentorship and innovation for advancing the New England theatre scene." "StageSource is a critical venture and resource in Boston…" "The most significant work that StageSource has done for me is in providing access to resources to advocate for transgender theatre artists in New England. StageSource strives to go beyond the basic step of “having the conversation” by providing programming and distributing resources, and importantly, they give communities a place to gather and a platform to speak for themselves."
"We do not lack for energy or ideas. The StageSource board and staff are passionate and engaged in helping the theater sector. However, our ambition is hampered by our budget."
StageSource is a vital resource and central network for the New England theatre community. We connect our individual and organizational members through a comprehensive suite of programs, with a focus on inclusiveness, responsiveness, and innovation. Your donations keep membership at an affordable cost, so that members of all ages and income levels have an equal opportunity to participate in theatre, build and sustain a thriving theater ecology, and contribute to a more vibrant civic life. StageSource is able to continue its mission because of your support and generosity.
The BJ Williams Fund was created by one of BJ's former students, Jeff Poulos, and her children Tina and Eric Williams. It will provide pathways for aspiring actors, directors, designers and other theatre professionals to pursue their craft. The Fund will assist artists in their transition from college education to careers in New England and beyond. Click here to donate. StageSource would not be what it is today without the vision, passion, and hard work of Jack Welch. The Jack Welch Fund was established to remember this amazing member of our community. The fund will be used for special events, added programming, and resource boosts that may be outside of our budget, but not our imagination. Click here to donate.
